Hey, what’s going on, guys? Getting some good questions, and so I appreciate that. You can send questions to me directly over the Anchor app or emailing me, alex@branninggroup.com. One of them was “I keep getting stuck getting started. So procrastination’s a big issue.” Man, I hear you. I’ve been there. I want to talk about that and address that.

So the first thing, when it comes to overcoming procrastination in your business, is number one, getting organized. Like actually writing down what it is that you want to accomplish. Putting it on a piece of paper and saying, “This is what I want to get done either by the end of this week.” Or if you want to get something done by the end of the month, whatever, put the things down that you want to get done and put a date down there that you want to get them done on. And this is for the bigger goals, right?

So then once you’ve got the big goals … So let’s just use a ClickFunnels marketing campaign as the example for overcoming procrastination. So your goal is to get 10 new signups for your ClickFunnels account by the end of the year. That’s a great goal, but it’s going to take some action to get there.

So the first thing you have to do is say, “Okay, I’m going to set up a landing page where people can get some free bonuses from me for signing up for ClickFunnels. I’m going to get that landing page set up by Friday.” And so, that’s a small chunk. It’s really important to give yourself small achievable goals.

Now, you want to create a timeline for the smaller action steps that are needed. So if the overall goal is getting 10 new signups by the end of the year, the first step on that is getting your landing page set up by Friday. Now, within that, you want to break that down. So maybe today you write down what your offer is. Tomorrow, you find a template and you plug in the basic copy that you want on there. Wednesday, you make a short video introducing yourself and upload it to YouTube. Doesn’t have to be crazy, just a quick intro video. And then on Thursday, you plug in a quick email sequence so that the bonuses are delivered. And then on Friday, you post that landing page online. See how I took one thing, that landing page, and I broke it into a couple of small chunks? All of those things can be achieved during the day.

So you want to set yourself a deadline as well. It’s super important to give yourself a specific date that things need to get done. Procrastination happens because we overwhelm ourselves. We give ourselves either too big of goals or too squishy of goals, right? Getting 10 new signups on ClickFunnels is not a goal that you can achieve in and of itself. It is a result of actions that you take. And so, when someone says, “I want to get 10 new people by the end of the year,” what I say is “How are you going to do that?” Starting with your landing page is step number one.

All right, so now that you’ve got this timeline and these deadlines of things that you want to accomplish. Now, what I want you to do is actually write out and say, “Okay, these are the big goals. Here’s the deadlines.” You’ve written out the small steps. Now I need you to get rid of the distractions that are around you. I need you to set up a space, a time. Maybe you’re time blocking, maybe you’re scheduling things out differently, whatever that looks like. Get rid of the distractions so that you can focus for a small chunk of time.

When you have a space where you can focus, when you have a work environment that allows you to free yourself of the other things that are going on in your life, now you’re able to get a lot of stuff done. Now, this could look like organizing your workspace. Getting rid of distractions could mean you do not have your phone anywhere near you and your phone is in the other room so that you can focus on what you need to get done on the computer. Getting rid of distractions could mean shutting yourself inside of an office, turning on soft music and plugging headphones in if the exterior environment is distracting. I don’t know what your situation is, but you need to be able to put yourself in an environment where the only thing that you can do are the tasks that you’ve put yourself, that you have written out, to accomplish the big task. All right?

So, couple of hacks on that. Number one, time yourself, right? So, for example, if you are looking at writing out an email sequence, for example, maybe you’ve never done that before. Again, I’m just picking something out of the sky here. You will want to say, “Okay, I have 30 minutes to write out these two or three emails,” right? 30 minutes. Now, why 30 minutes? Just because your mind will kind of … When you set that deadline, you have that timer going. You’re just going to start taking action. You’re going to start writing things out and getting it done. When you set a timer like that, you are solely focused.

Also, using incentives/punishment, whichever one you respond to, that’s another hack for you. So, for example, I work best on consequences. And so, what I do is I put things out there, like if I don’t finish this by the end of the week, so if I don’t finish setting up the landing page by the end of the week, then I don’t get to watch football. I’m a huge football fan. Go, Packers, go. And so that’s a huge driving force for me to get the thing done. At the same time, some of us work better on rewards. So if that’s you, figure out what you want. For example, if I finish the landing page by Friday, then I’m going to reward myself by getting either the coffee drink that I want or I’m going to go watch the movie that I want to go see, whatever that thing is for you that gets you going.

The last thing on procrastination, one of the things that gets people to take action, telling people about what you’re doing, letting them know about the goals that you have set out in front of you and keeping accountable with somebody else. There’s something about having to look somebody in their face and telling them that you did not get it done.

So I hope this was helpful for you guys. If you need any help with that, I encourage you to check out my VIP group. In there we have check-ins every single Friday.
