AV Spinal

When Av Spinal came to the Branning Group to have a site built they needed help with getting business from search engines. The Branning Group did a lot for them in both the site creating as well as getting their name recognized by search engines.

As a result of the problems the Branning Group took a four-pronged approach to getting the site more search engine traffic. They created a site map generator which let all search engines know about all of the sites pages, making the company more accessible. They modified the web site pages to be more search engine friendly, and submitted the website to all of the major search engines.

After the Branning Group was finished with the site and building up the Search engine traffic, Av Spinal reported that they had been dominating the competition ever since the work had been done. They also reported that they had been receiving multiple calls from new clients every week because of the site and the work the Branning Group did with the search engines.

AV Press Ads

The Branning Group was asked to change the format of the Av Press’ ad site. They were employed by AV Web Designs and took on the challenge and built an ad-management system that would take a lot of stress away from the Av Press. The site reads an XML file that is uploaded to the server daily. Once the server has received the file it builds the site around it so that the new changes can be made with little effort and the site will still look good.

AT&T

AT&T - ATT.com

AT&T came to the Branning Group just after their merger with SBC. They needed the Branning Group to build reports for them using the information from SBC. The Branning Group was able to take the data and transform it into the reports that AT&T requested.

The Branning Group worked hard to develop custom web applications that AT&T requested as well as create reports using the information provided. When finished, AT&T praised the Branning Group for the job they had done.

Boingos!

Boingos! - Boingos.com

The Branning Group was able to help Boingos! change the way they took care to their sites content. The Branning Group implemented a content management system that would allow them to change the content on their site. The Branning Group also added an events management system to the site as well allowing Boingos! to take control of the information regarding their events.

The content management system enabled Boingos! to be able to upload photos on their site. They were also given the ability to create hyperlinks, and change the text on the site so it would be more appealing (i.e. bold, italics etc.). They were able to create a question and answer section so that they could keep up with their client’s questions and things. Lastly they were given the ability to add appointment requests as well as contact information. This allowed Boingos! to gain business directly from their site as well as from other places.

The events management system is very similar to the content management system in the things it allowed Boingos! to do for its events. There was the ability to upload photos as well as make hyperlinks and edit text. On top of all of the normal features the Branning Group was able to make each event have its own summary that gave a brief explanation of what was going on and a detail page for each event to give more detailed information.

Each one of these additions to the site that the Branning Group added helped make the site stand out so it visitors were able to navigate smoothly, as well as learn about the things they came to the site about. Boingos! was very pleased with the outcome of their site and what it has done for them.

Bambi Baby

Bambi Baby - BambiBaby.com

The Branning Group has been able to incorporate Zen Cart gift registries (wish lists) onto numerous web sites. Zen Cart is an ecommerce program “developed by group of like-minded shop owners, programmers, designers, and consultants that think ecommerce web design could be and should be done differently.”

The first feature of the registry module is for the customers. Each customers is able to create a registry which is integrated in to the Zen Cart customers table. They are able to edit the registry information and change the event type and event date. Visitors are also able to search for a gift registry that they are looking for.

Among the features added to Zen Cart are features that allow products to be added to the registry. The Branning Group has inserted an “add to registry” button to the product details page to allow new products to be added to existing registries. This will also make adding an item easier by allowing the items to be added with one click. Along with these features the Branning Group was able to add order tracking so the store owners can  see how many items are being purchased from their registries and the registry owners know what they can expect to receive from their registry.

The registries offer additional features such as being able to add edit and remove products using a fast and powerful GUI. They are able to search for registries that they would like to view as well as being able to utilize the print button for making a quick shopping list. You can learn more about the Branning Group’s Zen Cart Gift Registry Module here: http://branninggroup.com/zen-cart-gift-registry.php

The Branning Group has been able to create Zen Cart modules for many web sites to boost their sales. The Zen Cart Gift Registry feature has makes shopping a little bit easier for visitors because they’re told what to buy, and gives customers motivation to send their friends to your web site to purchase the items they want. The sites that have used the Branning Group to customize their Zen Cart stores have been pleased with the increase in sales on their web site.

Zen Cart - Save Customers Credit Card Information (Authorize.NET)

I just released a module that will really help Zen Cart store owners, and something that has been missing from Zen Cart: saving the credit card information of your customers.

My new module records all credit card information passed through the Authorize.NET payment modules and includes an administrative section that allows the store owner to search for credit card information by credit card number, name on card, security code and Zen Cart customer ID.

You can learn more and purchase the module here: http://www.branninggroup.com/zen-cart-log-authorizenet-credit-card.php

Zen Cart - Store Credit Card Information

Let me begin my saying that I strongly recommend you DO NOT store credit card information; it’s a security headache and potentially dangerous. However, there are many businesses cases that require the storing of credit card information, and with the right precautions you can safely store the information for record-keeping.

Step 1: MAKE SURE YOUR SECURITY CERTIFICATE IS INSTALLED PROPERLY. I can’t emphasize this enough, you absolutely need to secure your web site.

Step 2: (Zen Cart 1.3.8a and prior installations) Install the security patch! Your store is vulnerable to hackers if you have not installed the security patch the Zen Cart issued in early 2009.

Step 3: Create a new table to store the credit card information.

Step 4: Modify your includes/modules/payment/authorizenet.php script.

Step 5: TEST, TEST, TEST! You don’t want to take down your store’s ordering functionality, make sure everything works and the credit card information is being saved.

Happy coding! Let me know if you need any assistance, I will do my best to answer your questions. If you’d like a quote for your Zen Cart project that will be saving credit card information, please email me at alex(at)branninggroup.com

Zen Cart - Using On-Site Credits as Currency

I recently published LetterheadStudios.com; a web site selling professional clipart using on-site credits as the currency to purchase the art. I wanted to walk you through the steps I took, the problems I encountered and what you need to know to make credits work for your Zen Cart store. NOTE: Due to privacy concerns and my own integrity, I will not be sharing the database schemas or any other information that could open up my client to hacking or foul play. I will not respond to inquiries asking for specific information regarding the site setup, but I’ll be happy to help as you develop your own store using credits as currency.

First, keep in mind that the only way for you to use credits as currency (and allow the purchasing of credits on your site) you will essentially have TWO separate commerce systems running on your store: one for buying credits and another for buying merchandise. Making them work side-by-side will require extensive modification to your Zen Cart store that will be hard to reverse if you ever wanted to run a “normal” store on your web site. Now that you understand the risks, let’s make this work!

Step 1:  Set up a category that allows your visitors to purchase products
You will need to have some separation between your “credit” items and the items your visitors will purchase using credits. My client asked me to do some extensive modification on the category detail page so that his “credit” items appeared dramatically different (in layout) than the items he is selling for credits. I recommend you do the same so you don’t confuse your customers.

Step 2: Set up the rest of your store for credit purchases
Your customers will use the normal Zen Cart ordering process for purchasing credits, so setup your payment modules appropriately. You will have to modify your includes/classes/order.php to track the credits purchased and debit the appropriate accounts (this step proved to be somewhat difficult, I had to use some out-of-the-box solutions to make this work the way the client asked).

Step 3: Add the rest of your products (the ones you will sell for credits)
Add these products using the Zen Cart inventory management tools, we want to use as much of the functionality that comes with Zen as we can!

Step 4: Create necessary database tables to track credit spends, refunds and other important transaction details
LetterheadStudios.com asked me to track all purchases made using credits (as well as downloads of the purchased clipart). Storing and using this data will require a lot of custom code because you will not be using the normal Zen Cart ordering process. LetterheadStudios had me record all transcations instantly using Ajax technologies so that the customer could continue browsing (and spending) without any delays. As I noted in my introduction I will not give any database schemas to protect my client; but I can help you along. Make sure you save the product ID of the purchased item with timestamp, logged-in customer ID, and the number of credits spent.

Step 5: Enhance the administration so you can track credit spends and give refunds
It is crucial that you have a way to refund your customers in case they can’t download/receive the products they purchased for whatever reason. I modified the customer edit screen to allow for a quick credit refund, show all credit-related history and display all e-commerce transactions from the selected account.

Happy coding! Let me know if you need any assistance, I will do my best to answer your questions. If you’d like a quote for your Zen Cart project that will use credits as currency, please email me at alex(at)branninggroup.com
